Our Vision — The Facility

Our ultimate goal is to secure space in downtown Raleigh that we can call our own. We have in mind a facility to be open 7 days a week where people can drop in at any time, have a cup of coffee, view local art, sit and read or take a book out from a lending library. This will be a safe and welcoming space which we expect LGBT organizations from throughout the area will consider their own and feel welcome to use for meetings or performances. Activity will be generated as much from without as from within.

With these goals in mind, we project a space requirement of approximately 3000 to 4000 square feet. This will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Reception area
  • Coffee shop
  • Performance/Gathering space
  • Lending library/Reading room/Conference room
  • Executive office
  • Private offices (min. 3)
  • Gallery space/Circulation
  • Kitchen
  • Rest rooms
  • Storage

A permanent installation is planned commemorating the first 1000 people and businesses to donate $100 or more to the Center. This shall be known as the Founder's Triangle, and will serve as a monument to those who had the vision to believe in this historic undertaking from the very beginning.

We intend to hold focus groups and to meet with other organizations to help us determine in more detail what we need to incorporate into the center. Please feel free to submit your suggestions and comments to: lgbtcenterofraleigh@gmail.com.
