2/29/2012 - “Managing Your Career and Building Your Skills”

Description: Most of us spend a large portion of waking hours working in our profession. Therefore, it is critical that you align your career with your interests and your talents. In this workshop we will:

  • Introduce the concepts of vocation, skills and talents
  • Discuss the skills building and career management cycle
  • Explore the concept that you ultimately own your career
  • Explore how to analytically analyze various job options and evaluate your next position
  • Introduce ideas for building a plan to enhance your skills
  • Discuss what mentoring is and the importance of mentoring to career development
  • Explore unique perspectives or managing a career as an LGBT person

This workshop’s concepts can apply to people in all professions and for those just entering the workplace all the way to seasoned professionals

Stan KimerPresenter: Stan Kimer

Stan C. Kimer combines his passion for personal growth with world-class business know-how to propel enterprises to gain efficiencies and grow profit through total engagement. He is recognized as an internal/external consultant with unique skills in employee development/career road mapping, GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) diversity management and organizational effectiveness/project management. He is also acclaimed throughout the business community for his ability to lead large and small companies to achieve significant revenue from the under-served $730 Billion GLBT marketplace and to maximize performance of GLBT employees. With his high energy, and strong communications skills, he is frequently invited to speak or conduct workshops on diversity and leadership development.

Stan excelled as a member of IBM’s executive team in his most recent position of Director of Global Sales Operations with IBM’s Consulting Practice. Prior to the Sales Operations role, Stan had over 20 additional years of broad IBM experience in staff and management positions in customer support, finance, marketing, technical product planning and human resources (diversity). In the global corporate diversity role, he led IBM to premier leadership industry status in GLBT diversity. He is active in leadership roles in dozens of community and civic organizations including as President of the North Carolina Council of Churches. The Triangle Business and Professional guild recognized Stan in 2003 with their Professional of the Year award. Stan received his MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and BS in Management Science from Georgia Tech.
