LGBT NC Warrior Dash

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Warrior DashThe Warrior Dash is a 5K mud run being held close to Charlotte this May
Date: May 19th
Registration fee: $65 (price will go up after March 25th)

The idea is to get an LGBT team together, between Charlotte and Raleigh, for the purpose of friendship-building and getting fit. In addition, if we raise money for a non-gay charity (the race organizers are encouraging teams to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital), we’ll conduct some positive gay activism by showing we contribute significantly to the community at large, as well as helping some kids in need. All this followed by a celebratory night out in Charlotte.

If we could pull together about 20 people who raise $250 each, that’s $5K to the children’s hospital (the event’s goal is $20K). I sent out a cursory message on Facebook to see who would be interested and have about 18 positive responses. If you could share this idea with your groups, I think the LGBT NC could be the event’s biggest charitable donor. I hope you agree that this would be a wonderful statement.

Please see the registration details below.

“Absolutely Positive” World Premiere in Raleigh

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Absolutely Positive

“Absolutely Positive” focuses on shedding light on how the decisions we make in our lives can gravely affect us as well as those around us. The film also shows that HIV is universal and not just segregated to a certain community, race, age group, sexual orientation, etc. HIV has no lines, and it knows no bounds. Anthony of Second Glance Productions wanted to make a film that pushed the boundaries and showed the authenticities and realities that many may not think of. Our hope is to bring multiple communities together – HIV positive and negative, black/white/other ethnicities, and the LGBT and straight communities, in addition to many others.

It should be a really great and fun event for all. The actual event will be held on January 25th and 29th at Club 313, which will be open for all ages. For the premiere event, we plan to spare no expense. To treat all of our guests like Hollywood royalty, we plan to roll out the red carpet and invite the “paparazzi” out to join us for the evening. There will be raffling off of movie posters and early-release DVD’s of the film, talks about our future feature film, and the one-time premiering of “Absolutely Positive.” After these premiere dates, the film won’t be shown anywhere else but film festivals until 2013. With everyone knowing this, the anticipation is continuing to build within the community.

News!

We are incredibly excited that the LGBT Center of Raleigh has been able to book a special premiere showing of “Absolutely Positive” at the Center on Sunday, February 19th. The doors will open at 6:00 pm and the showing will begin at 6:30.

An encore screening of Absolutely Positve will be on Sunday, Feb. 19th at 6 pm at the LGBT Center of Raleigh. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged and accepted. Donations will go toward the Center as well as toward the film to support the completion of the film, future screenings, and film festival entry fees. The director and cast members will be in attendance for a Q&A session after the film is completed. No RSVP is required, but its recommended to bring a blanket or comfortable bean bags, lawn chairs, etc, for the environment will be a very laid back, old-timey drive-in movie theater feel. Snacks will be provided, courtesy of the Center. Any additional details can be found on the film’s Facebook page or at www.secondglanceproductions.com.

Kickstarter funding for the film is crucial, so please follow this link to help us meet our funding goal. Unless the funding campaign is successful the film will remain stagnant.

That is the same evening as the new HealthWorks Sunday Seminar Series that launches just before this showing. Make an afternoon AND and evening of it!
