THE LGBT CENTER OF RALEIGH ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BOBBY HILBURN

RALEIGH, NC, July 25, 2011 - The Board of Trustees of The LGBT Center of Raleigh has announced today that Bobby Hilburn, the organization’s Executive Director for the past year, will be leaving the organization on October 14, 2011 to pursue other career opportunities.

Bobby Hilburn Speaks at OUT Raleigh 2011The LGBT Center, a Community Center that supports the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals within the Triangle and beyond has made great strides in the past year under Hilburn’s leadership.

“Leading the LGBT Center of Raleigh has been an absolute honor and I am proud to have been part of something so important to so many,” states Hilburn. “I became involved in order to help create a place for our community and never envisioned I would become its first director. The Center will always have a very special place in my heart and I look forward to the future as it continues to serve and support our LGBTQ community.”

Under Mr. Hilburn’s direction, The Center has reached new heights within the community. During his tenure, Hilburn was able to increase the number of supporters, donors, and volunteers that support The Center. His efforts helped to move The Center to its new and larger location at 411 Hillsborough St. in downtown Raleigh. One of his most impressive achievements, however, is making it possible for The Center to be open seven days a week, providing much needed services to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

Responding to Mr. Hilburn’s announcement, The Chair of the Center’s Board of Trustees, Glen Medders said: “Bobby has been the face of the LGBT Center for the past several years and has been instrumental in directing the amazing growth and success of the Center. He has worked on this project for more than five years and oversaw the opening of our first location on Cabarrus Street and our monumental move to 411 Hillsborough Street this year. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Bobby in the future as the Center continues to expand and mature.”

According to Medders, the Board of Trustees has already established a committee to oversee the national search for The Center’s next Executive Director. This committee will be working in the coming months to recruit and select a new leader.
