Spotlight: Affirming Faith Forum

Affirming Faith Forum

The Affirming Faith Forum group seeks to establish a place where leaders and representatives of Triangle area faith groups can come together on a regular basis (perhaps quarterly) to share what we are doing to help people overcome the fear and hatred that some religious groups promote. We encourage and support each other in our efforts.

Because of varying work schedules, the Forum meets at two separate times: an afternoon and an evening of the same week. You may attend one or both of these meetings.

The initial interest meetings of the Affirming Faith Forum will be held on Thursday, October 20th, from 1:00 until 3:00 pm AND on Saturday, October 22nd, from 7:15 pm until 9:00 pm at the LGBT Center of Raleigh, 411 Hillsborough Street.

If you are interested in participating in the Affirming Faith Forum, please add your name to our emailing list by clicking here. As our meeting dates approach, we will send you messages that will allow you to RSVP for each meeting.

To register for the initial interest meeting of the Affirming Faith Forum on Thursday afternoon, October 20th, please click here. While the Center has a large room, we need to make sure we have enough chairs to make everyone feel welcome.

To come to the initial interest meeting of the Affirming Faith Forum on Saturday evening, October 22nd, please click here.

Affirming Faith Forum

Friday January 27, 2012 6:30 to 8:30 pm
At the LGBT Center of Raleigh
411 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC

We believe that the call to be a loving and just community is significant to life in our community. This scriptural imperative is especially significant now when anti LGBTQ hate based religious rhetoric threatens our lives and well being. We meet in the strength and love of community, attesting to how shame and guilt are disarmed.

“For the Bible Tells Me So”

Our goal is to faithfully act on the call to community healing and reconciliation. Grounding advocacy for religious tolerance in the mandate to love your neighbor challenges the immoral attempts to judge and punish others because of whom they love or how they identify or express their gender.

Welcome to a safe place of radical hospitality.

We will reflect on our experiences of what’s working and what’s getting in the way. Click here for more information.

Our goal is to act on the call to community healing and reconciliation. Participants will join community leaders, to reflect on considerations and options for staying connected with family, friends, neighbors and colleagues while discussing the issues.
