A New Vision for Our Website
You have probably noticed that the LGBT Center of Raleigh’s website is changing. Please let us take a moment to share our dream.
We are taking this website to the next level of information.
- We want it to be a primary source for letting people know how they can be active AND safe in our local community.
- We want to be an authoritative source for life-saving information that people need to know about all LGBT issues, concerns, and challenges that we face. We also want to know where we can find cheerful, affirming faces who appreciate who we are.
- We want to provide a place where you can feel as if you belong.
Someone recently made a comment, “This sounds like a full time job!”
Yes, it is! But since the LGBT Center runs by having dedicated volunteers, that full-time job can be spread out over a whole team of volunteers who share our dream.
So we need your help. If you share any of the passions and dreams we’ve mentioned above, you can join our Web Team. You don’t have to possess any special website programming skills … just the ability to organize information and communicate it with our community.
Join the LGBT Center of Raleigh’s Web Team
We have a great Executive Director and volunteer Center Administrative Assistant who can funnel information to us. We have an able webmaster who knows how to get information on the site. What we think we need, at this point, is…
- A copywriter (or two) who can describe various facets of the Center’s operation and programs.
- A link checker (or two) who can periodically check to make sure all the links on the site work properly.
- A community event outreach facilitator who can contact organizations (and our own Center program organizers) to make sure their events are listed in our Event List and be the point person to contact if the organizations make schedule changes.
- Someone who is good with graphics and can create appealing and informative slides for the new “In Focus” and “Spotlight” features on the new Front Page.
- Someone who just loves Facebook and can get some additional buzz going there – coordinating efforts with the rest of the Web Team.
In addition, it would be fantastic if there was a Web Team Liaison from each of the Center’s Programs who can make sure that the information on the site is current. When M Club or Gay N Gray, for instance, plans something, that person writes up some copy and sends it in. (The Liaison would not necessarily be the leader of the program.)
As the Center grows and becomes more vital to our community, our Web Team will grow as well. If you have suggestions, we want to hear them!
The Web Team will meet on a regular basis to make sure we’re doing what we need to do and know what we need to know. Sometimes, those will be virtual (computer-based) meetings.
Will you help with any of these things? If so, please send an email message to our Web Team. We will make sure you have all the details right away.
Thanks!
