Celebrate June 2019 Pride Month Across the Triangle

“RaleighJoin the LGBT Center of Raleigh and celebrate Pride: Wake County Commissioners are declaring June NC LGBTQ Pride Month to recognize LGBTQ identifying communities in Wake County.

June 28, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Riots in Manhattan. In recognition of queer liberation, the LGBT Center of Raleigh is participating in several partnerships with local businesses and organizations for the entire month of June.

Attend one of the many Events Around the Triangle and participate in a countywide recognition to advocate for the protection and respect of LGBTQ individuals – regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Why is Pride Month a big deal? It’s an official acknowledgement by our local government that the possibility of bringing acceptance and affirmation of LGBTQ people is real. It opens the door for spreading a message of love to all 100 counties in North Carolina that currently lack resources and information about the LGBTQ community.

And the need for LGBTQ specific services and education will only grow over time. Thousands of existing LGBTQ North Carolinians need access to programs and educational services in addition to the hundreds of people moving to the Triangle every day. Supporting NC LGBTQ Pride Month brings these people in contact with the vital programs of the LGBT Center of Raleigh and our partner organizations.

Why the LGBT Center of Raleigh?

Most LGBTQ individuals experience crisis, trauma, or a lack of acceptance in their community once or several times throughout their lives. The LGBT Center of Raleigh provides programming and services to LGBTQ folx who need to find their community or “chosen family” – where they can access resources and information specific to their needs – rather than suffering in isolation.

Wake County legislators are moving in the right direction by recognizing the needs of LGBTQ individuals who tend to experience discrimination, harassment, and violence at a much higher rate than other populations.

Be out and proud!

The LGBT Center of Raleigh is committed to working with state and local government to expand protections for the LGBTQ community. As we look for ways to improve our services, we invite you to participate in NC LGBTQ Pride Month by kicking off the festivities at Videri Chocolate Factory right after the Run for Love 5K on Saturday, June 1, 2019.
