    Description:

    Confronting the Moral Hypocrites: Connections

How do you deal with moral hypocrisy in your faith community? When their moral narrative conflicts with other things they say they believe, how do you confront that?

"They" say they are pro-life, but they allow children and other innocents to be used for target practice. "They" say everyone loves covering pre-existing conditions, but they won't fund mental health treatment adequately. "They" want to protect families, but they separate children from their parents at the border. And "they" only want to protect families that look just like their own family.

The moral narrative we hear around us is full of conflicts. How can LGBT people of faith confront that in ways that will be heard?

On the eve of the Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revivalevent in the nation's capital, you'll have a chance to find out how others deal with this and share your own thoughts on Friday, June 22nd during our meeting right here in Raleigh.

Connections is a program of the LGBT Center of Raleigh that provides an opportunity for LGBTQ people of all faith backgrounds (or no faith backgrounds) and our Allies to come together and have conversation about various common concerns and ideas. The idea is to promote communication across a diverse group of people and provide safe, nonjudgmental space for people to express themselves with each other. Reconciling who we are - our sexuality and our spirituality - can be very difficult; Connections can provide a place where we are able to talk openly about such issues as well as other topics that some might consider taboo. Connections is all about building relationships - NOT religion.

Sometimes, we will have a main speaker on a central topic, but most months, we'll just have conversations around the room with small groups and individuals.

This month, please bring some refreshments to share with others. Come and explore new Connections in our faith community.
