    Description:

    mikisa.jpg

Black feminist activist Mikisa Thompson is unapologetic and outspoken. Originally from Brooklyn, Mikisa's interest in politics began when she moved to the South and felt the effects of raising her three children under the conditions of white supremacy.

While there has been some progress for Black rights, much more must be accomplished. And Mikisa believes the first step is recognizing white privilege in the feminist movement. By doing so, white women can help destroy the political and economic systems of Black oppression.

For this talk, Mikisa will share her experience working to dismantle racism in the women's movement, organizing and educating oppressed people as a member of RIOT_Revolt, and encouraging her daughter's activism (Takiyah Thompson) to topple the Confederate Soldiers statue in Durham, NC on August 14, 2017. Learn how the liberation of Black women depends on all women working together in solidarity.

Born in New York, Mikisa grew up in a segregated neighborhood in Brooklyn and later moved to North Carolina to raise her children. She is a Black bi-woman who fights racial, sexual, and class oppression.
