As part of a national research project a series of focus groups for LGBTQ Caregivers will be held in the Triangle during August. SAGE in Raleigh has been requested by Diverse Elders Coalition and SAGE USA to organize and conduct those focus groups.

The following focus groups are scheduled:

    • Sunday Aug. 4, 2019, 2 PM
for women who are lesbian, bisexual, or transgender and people who are non-binary
Umstead United Church of Christ (UCC) in the library, 8208 Brownleigh Dr, Raleigh, NC 27617
    • Sunday, August 25, 2 PM
for people of any sexual orientations and gender identities
Location to be determined (TBD) based on interest from participants outside Raleigh
    • Saturday, August 31, 2 PM
for men who are gay, bisexual, or transgender and people who are non-binary
St. John's MCC, 622 Maywood Avenue, Raleigh NC

Participants must be LGBTQ and currently providing personal (not paid) caregiving to a partner, family member, friend, or other person. The caregiver does not need to be a member of SAGE or over 50. Transgender and non-binary persons are encouraged to register.

This is an important project sponsored by the Diverse Elders Coalition and SAGE USA to determine the specific concerns and needs for LGBTQ people who are providing personal caregiving. Results will be included with results from other areas. It will also be used by SAGE to determine what needs exist in our own community and what programs might meet those needs.

Focus groups will be conducted by trained facilitators. A small stipend will be provided for those who attend. To register or receive more information, please email and put Caregiver's Focus Group in the subject line or telephone 919.349.3300.
