The Women’s Initiative: A Program of the LGBT Center of Raleigh is a community of LGBTQ female-identified women who come together in friendship and intellectual exchange. Our purpose is to connect with feminists, scholars, and mentors – and raise consciousness on women’s issues.
All kinds of women are welcome – from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds as well as ages, sexual orientations, gender expressions, physical abilities, and professional fields – that seek philosophical and feminist discussion among interested women in a safe and friendly environment.
Events are open to the public, i.e. organizers do not regulate who attends events and all guests will be admitted. However, all speakers, scholars, and volunteers are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer women. Organizers ask male allies to acknowledge and respect the fact that the Women’s Initiative is a program for, on, and by women.
Women’s Initiative Recurring Monthly Events
Women, Words, and Wine
7:00 pm, 2nd Friday of every month
Glass of red anyone? Even some of the most influential women from history made time for pure recreation. Join us on the second Friday of every month at a local watering hole for alcohol in some form or another. Hear the intimate and inspiring stories from queer women of the Triangle; or just kick back, relax, and celebrate your victory over the long work week. All women are welcome.
7:30 pm, 3rd Wednesday of every month
Engage in a powerful conversation with a prominent woman in our community on the third Wednesday of every month. We are committed to building diversity into our programming, including speakers of color and queer speakers whose voices need to be heard. In order to foster a diverse environment, we actively work to include diverse voices and provide a safe space for everyone who attends our speaking events. This is an alcohol-free event. All folx are welcome.
